Arts & Ecology Incorporated was founded in New York in 2015 by Tal Beery and Jane Manwelyan.

It all started in 2010 when Tal and Jane founded Eco Practicum, a desk-free school for ecological justice. As working artists and environmental professionals, Tal and Jane believed that traditional educational outlets were not sufficiently preparing people to live and work in a world that is rapidly changing and urgently in need of new ways of being. Eco Practicum filled that gap for college-aged participants with hands-on experiential learning programs and access to the most innovative and effective environmental organizations in New York City and the Catskill Mountains.

In 2015, Tal and Jane worked with two other artists—Catherine Despont and Adam Stennett—to co-found School of Apocalypse, an experimental platform for interdisciplinary collaborations exploring creative practice and survival.

That same year, Tal and Jane founded Arts & Ecology Incorporated as a home for these projects and to support other aligned efforts. Arts & Ecology Incorporated has grown into a community of shared purpose, including individuals and organizations striving to create ecologically just societies. This work calls for inspiration, resourcefulness, imagination, and camaraderie; it requires determination, solidarity, knowledge, and skills from each of us. Arts & Ecology Incorporated operates in solidarity with the many artists, storytellers, and organizations that aim to change our systems by changing our stories and the ways we tell them.
