Burial for White Supremacy

A Free Outdoor Public Performance by Jean-Marc Superville Sovak
Saturday September 26, 4pm
Unison Arts: 68 Mountain Rest Rd. New Paltz, NY 12561
- Masks Required -

The past four years have made it unforgivably clear: equating greatness with whiteness is openly a mainstream political agenda. Again. It is past time to tell neo-fascism to go back to the cesspool it came from. If your blood is mixed with hate, bury it in this soil. Black lives matter when we bury white power. The nails and the coffin are ready at hand.
 - Jean-Marc Superville Sovak

With humble acceptance of God’s will, we announce the passing of White Supremacy. White Supremacy was the child of Manifest Destiny and Colonial Capitalism, relative to Orientalism and progenitor to slavery. The funeral service will be held at Unison Art Center on September 26th at 4pm. Graveside service and reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please bring donations (Confederate flags, Nazi regalia, Klan hoods, MAGA hats, Bootstraps, Whitening Creams and any other related supremacist symbols of whiteness).

Preparing the ground for his work in Owning Earth, an outdoor exhibition opening at Unison Arts in Spring 2021, Jean-Marc Superville Sovak invites you to a Burial of White Supremacy. The artist encourages individuals to participate in this performance by bringing objects they own—personal or public symbols of White Supremacy—to include in the burial. This free public performance is part of the continuing conversations around Owning Earth, an exhibition of artworks that confront land-based systems of domination and imagine post-domination futures.
